winter crafting...

I don't know about you, but I am done with all this snow! I really do love it but I think my arms will break if I have to shovel again any time soon. At least I have until tomorrow before more snow is predicted to arrive.

One good thing about the cold and snow is that all the time spent indoors was an opportunity to be a little crafty. My daughter and I made this adorable igloo out of mini marshmallows. It is so cute, I love it! The hardest part was keeping her, and the dog, from eating all the marshmallows while we were making it.

I got the idea for it here.

We also made salt dough ornaments to hang on the Christmas Valentine's trees on our front porch. We used rubber stamps and lighty pressed them into the dough before baking. Once all painted and glittered they were beautiful.

Here is the recipe we used:
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
1 cup water

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl until dough forms. Roll our dough to 1/4 inch thick. Cut with cookie cutters and use a straw to poke a hole for ribbon. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 25-30 minutes to set dough. Allow to air dry completely before painting, this may take several days. Apply clear sealer.

There was recently a salt dough ornament throwdown offered up by one of the blogs I like follow. There were some very creative entries, view a slideshow of them here.

Hope you too are finding some time to enjoy being crafty.
